Leucadia Backyard Wedding

Encinitas, California

A laid back, SoCal vibe, backyard wedding of my dreams.

Kyle + Maddie tied the knot in the most beautiful Leucadia home, surrounded by lush palms and flourishing orange trees. This little SoCal abode has grabbed the attention of many on instagram as I’ve received multiple messages inquiring about this space; where it’s located and how they can rent it out.

One of the most striking details was their handmade chuppah, crafted from driftwood and adorned with seashells and flowers. At every corner, there was a surf-shack utility converted to an inviting wedding day space —  like the outdoor, post-beach going shower turned guestbook phone booth, or the surfboard shed swapped from boards to guitars. Every detail reflected their love for the ocean and beachside living.

When I first toured the backyard with Maddie in preparation for the wedding, I asked how many guests they expected. Her response — “About 200… Don’t worry, we do this all the time.”— I think she sensed my surprise, but her chill demeanor about it gave me confidence that they had a plan. And sure enough, they pulled it off seamlessly. The atmosphere felt much like a familiar neighborhood gathering, with friends and family from all walks of life coming together to celebrate.

One particularly special group in attendance was the Fish 101 crew. Maddie and Kyle first met while working as servers at the beloved local restaurant, and many of their former coworkers turned lifelong friends were there to cheer them on.

As Maddie and Kyle walked down the aisle, the crowd erupted into cheers—far from the typical hushed and romantic procession, but instead an outpouring of support and joy. It was loud, energetic, and totally them.

Later in the evening, everyone gathered for speeches, standing with arms around one another. Parents, siblings, and friends shared stories and inside jokes, many of which the entire community seemed to be in on. A true testament to the support system that surrounds Maddie and Kyle.

As the night went on, the live band kept the energy high, and with no venue restrictions, the celebration carried on late into the evening.

While this space isn’t available to rent, it’s a perfect example of how creativity, the support of loved ones, and personal touches can transform any space into something meaningful. At the end of the day, a celebration is only as special as the people who surround you.
